Opinion Line Extra (June 23)
After the shootings in South Carolina, Fox News co-hosts said that if only the people in the church had had guns, they could have stopped the shooter. Really? Is that what it’s come to in America? Guns everywhere.
You want somebody to blame? It’s Obama. He and his ilk have split this nation. In every mass shooting in the U.S. except one, the shooter was a liberal.
Why is it that when the media offer a report on a shooting or other act of violence, the only time the race of those involved comes up is when the aggressor is white and the victim is not?
Before you defend George W. Bush too much: His daddy was commander in chief when he went into the military. Of course he saw no combat. His daddy was a wealthy donor and alum of the university he attended. His daddy set him up in business. Think about it.
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that when Republicans cut taxes they only cut them for the wealthy, and then they raise taxes on the middle class to offset the loss in revenue?
Recall Gov. Sam Brownback before it’s too late.
In some ways Brownback was right – not everyone in Kansas had a tax increase. The highest earners in Kansas got a tax break, and the rest of us are picking up the tab.
Police abusing their authority isn’t new. Americans have become aware of its frequency because of modern technology, and that’s good: Changes need to occur. However, I fear that’s nothing more than a pretext for the powers that be to institutionalize discrimination against white police officers.
Democrats vote “in their best interests” because they think the government is a sugar daddy. It’s part of the “gimme-gimme” mindset. Never mind what is best for the country. Selfish leeches that they are.
Republicans want women on welfare to get married. Like being married was a “solve-all” in life.
To the accusation that liberals twist Jesus’ fundamental teachings in order to support their positions: Jesus’ ideas were very liberal, even if you don’t want to admit it. It’s even worse when the GOP claims to espouse his ideals but does everything to the contrary.
Those who disagree with our governor, and agree that the solution to every problem is to thoughtlessly spend more money, find safe haven in the Opinion page of The Eagle. “It’s for the children, the poor, the (so-called) disenfranchised,” they cry.
Regarding WSU professor Tina Bennett-Kastor’s letter on the use of biblical quotes in class (June 17 Letters to the Editor): Right on, sister. The same holds true in high school classes, contrary to popular opinion.
