Only a third of Kansans view Legislature favorably

Kansans don’t think much of the GOP-controlled Legislature. Only 33 percent of those surveyed in a new Suffolk University/USA Today poll view the Legislature favorably, while 43 percent view it unfavorably. GOP incumbents in two key statewide races aren’t faring that well either, with Gov. Sam Brownback trailing Democrat Paul Davis by 4 points and Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., trailing independent Greg Orman by 5 points. Brownback’s unfavorable rating is 53 percent, while Roberts’ is nearly as bad at 47 percent. Also of concern for Roberts: Those surveyed were asked in an open-ended question what word or phrase came to mind when they heard his name. The most frequent specific response was “been in office too long/needs to retire/term limits.” – Phillip Brownlee
