Opinion Line Extra (June 18)

It was time to cut expenses, not time to raise taxes. What do you do with your budget? Do you overspend? Not a chance of that or you will go broke. State leaders should have taken the responsible and adult action.

The tax plan the Legislature passed is unfair. The tax load was placed on working people and homeowners. Businesses should pay income taxes, too. Our tax dollars will support religious and private schools when the state should be improving the public schools. What a misuse of public money.

Looks like King Brownback is taking his cues from King Obama. Neither one listens to the people. If the state put 330,000 businesses back on the tax rolls, our budget deficit would have been fixed.

A story about a barn was better than stories about our do-nothing legislators in Topeka.

I am not psychic, but I’ll state this: If the next president is a Republican, America will be in another war. So think carefully. Your sons and daughters may be sacrificed for another hoax or a rush to judgment.

Yes, the Republicans are trying to keep people from voting, but mostly people who aren’t eligible to vote or have already voted. I recently deposited money in the bank, bought a mobile device, had dinner at a local pub, caught an airplane. Showed picture ID every time. Miraculous.

I would never be a libertarian because they are often far too left for my taste. I will give them this, though: When they err, they err on the side of freedom, liberty and the sovereignty of the individual.

It amazes me how people go right into an animal’s home, take pictures, have no respect for their dwellings, and then scratch their heads when they attack. What would you do if they came into your home?

How did this local celebrities business get started? Just because people are on local television does not make them stars of the community. They are legends in their own minds.

I’m watching TV, and the weather ticker on the bottom of the screen says “hen egg size” hail is possible. All female birds are hens, so is that robin egg or ostrich egg size hail? Come on – let’s get back to using coins or different sizes of balls to describe hail.

Human resource interviewers are allotted way too much power. This is all that is needed: “Can you do the job?” “Would you like the job?” “See you tomorrow morning bright and early.” Anything further is overthinking malarkey and money wasted.

Don’t you just love those drivers who sit at the intersection and watch you approach for a long time, then pull out in front of you when it’s way too late and go 10 mph less than you were going?
