Opinion Line Extra (June 15)

State officials were paid overtime, more than $1 million, to address the budget shortfall. Was there any budget oversight over the course of the year? They should have been having some serious conversations long before June. Or was the thought of overtime too good to pass up?

Wow. Let’s hire some more high-priced consultants. Look what Arthur Laffer has done for Kansas.

Kansas GOP legislative anti-tax hypocrites: You may have held your nose during your vote to yield the largest tax raise upon the middle class in the history of Kansas. However, I won’t be holding my nose at the voting booth, no matter how stinky the politics of your non-incumbent rival is.

In Washington, D.C., the Republicans blame gridlock on the Democrats. The Kansas legislators can only blame themselves, Republicans, for the mess that they have been too ignorant to resolve.

Does anyone know how much the governor or members of his family benefit from the exemption of taxes on businesses? Same question for members of the Legislature. They would rather the state go broke before giving up their extra pay.

Republicans always say they don’t raise taxes. That is a lie. They raise them on everyone except the rich. We know whom they represent. Until people realize that and vote accordingly, nothing will change.

Wealth, like alcohol, is a disease. And the only way to cure it is to take it away.

The overwhelming majority of people are right-handed. The baggage carousels at the new terminal fail to take this into account and are rotating in the wrong direction. So much for superior planning and forethought and money well-spent.

Government imposes more air emissions restrictions on the airlines. Those who can’t afford higher airline ticket prices will go back into their high-polluting cars. Result? Even more pollution and more highway deaths.

I disagree with the person who thinks Obama should stop playing so much golf and decide what to do about ISIS. I think Obama should continue to play golf and let somebody qualified decide what to do with ISIS.

People who believe that Saddam Hussein didn’t have chemical weapons probably believe he shelled his own country with air freshener and pixie dust.

People still idiotically claiming that Bush went to war under false pretenses is testimony that facts don’t matter to liberals. Intelligence services the world over believed Saddam had them, and in fact he did have them, as evidenced by more than 100,000 Kurds murdered by Iraqi chemical weapons.

Isn’t there some way to get rid of Obama? The Democrats as a whole are a train wreck.

Some as young as 14 are tried as adults for murder. Then when a well-developed teenager seduces a teacher, the teacher can get many years in prison and the teen goes scot-free. They brag about their conquest and everyone, especially the law, comes down on only the teacher.
