Opinion Line (June 11)

By taking Kansas to the brink of two constitutional crises (school funding and defunding the courts), Sam Brownback is showing that he is unfit and unable to fulfill his constitutional duties as governor of Kansas. He should resign.

Now that the Kansas secretary of state and attorney general both have the power to prosecute, their offices should be combined and redundant staff laid off.

If the court system is stripped of funding, as Brownback and his minions desire if judges rule against the usurpers, where does Kris Kobach go to prosecute his imaginary voter fraud cases?

The Pentagon warned the president two years ago that ISIS was gathering strength. Obama admitted he still doesn’t have a “complete strategy” for fighting ISIS. Obama should park Air Force One and stay off the golf course until he has developed a strategy.

If Roosevelt had moved against Hitler with the speed of Obama in deciding a strategy against ISIS, we would still be fighting World War II.

We are seeing increasing anarchy because of the breakdown of the family, the tolerance of bad behavior in schools, and a lack of respect for authority in any form. The concert riot in New Jersey and the pool party incident in Texas are just the tip of a growing iceberg.

With all these videos of policemen, I am shocked at their language and their lack of skills to remain calm. They need training to manage their tempers and their mouths if they expect respect.

Regarding the Texas police officer on video throwing a black girl to the ground and pulling a gun: I would like to know what schools he attended. Was it in a city like Maize or maybe a private school, where most students were white?

Since nobody wants the police to be the police anymore, we should dissolve all of the police forces. Then taxpayers would have plenty of money to buy their own guns and bullets, as they would have to protect themselves. It would be like the Wild West again.

May the irresponsible parents whose teens like to smash beer bottles on sidewalks experience a flat tire for each bottle thrown.

There would be fewer car break-ins and less vandalism if people would clean out their garages and park their cars in them.

I always thought Wichita was a small town, but now I know for sure. A front-page story Wednesday, above the fold and with banner headline, about a barn? Now I know why the rest of the country considers us to be hayseeds.
