Opinion Line (June 10)
The Duggar girls have described being taught how to kiss by their brother and father. In most of the families I know, this would be disgusting. Perhaps ultra-Christian homes raise their children differently.
The Duggar family is not as unique as you might think. When teenage boys’ hormones kick in, they react in different ways. I’ll bet more than one has spied on or approached his sister or some other young woman during this phase of life. It’s not right, but it happens.
To fund the boys ranch over tax-revenue-producing, job-creating, tourism-promoting, economy-driving cultural organizations is profoundly wrong and deeply misguided. Vote County Commissioners Richard Ranzau, Karl Peterjohn and Jim Howell out of office.
Now I know why none of my neighbors attends the River Festival. The concerts at Kennedy Plaza were so loud I can no longer hear. I paid $7 for small pieces of chicken on a stick and $5 for a Coke.
We wonder if Wichita Festivals officials have considered they could face charges and lawsuits should a stampede occur in one of their fenced-in events at the River Festival or elsewhere.
Plenty of Wichitans would be happy to see a Bass Pro Shop, and 47th Street South and I-135 would be a great spot for one. Perhaps if the developer could get that big-name company, others would follow. Too much money has already been invested to just build warehouses.
I was pleased to see that Costco has parking spaces big enough to accommodate those bloated SUVs that people seem to like.
Our state government screams to high heaven when the federal government invalidates any action it has taken, but does not hesitate to override ordinances in force by city, county and other local government entities.
What good is voting pro-life when the legislators you vote for create an economy wherein couples cannot afford to add children to their families?
To those who call George W. Bush dumb: Have you ever piloted a fighter jet? Did you graduate from an Ivy League university? Have you made millions of dollars as a businessman? No? Then be careful whom you call dumb.
It’s a shame that most people in Congress, who’re supposed to understand the Constitution, didn’t block the Patriot Act. It’s an unconstitutional abomination, and anyone who supports it has no business making laws. I supported George W. Bush, mostly, but that was a disgrace.
Here’s a novel idea: Keep all the fruits and vegetables out of beer.
