Opinion Line Extra (June 5)
The Kansas Legislature has been about as useful as a buggy whip on a Stanley Steamer. Elected to represent the interests of Kansas and Kansans, many legislators have merely continued to promote their failed partisan ideology.
If the important issues facing the state’s Legislature are decided within a committee, why are we sending all of those other clowns to Topeka?
Before the Legislature raises our taxes to make up for Brownback’s failed economic plan, perhaps it should make an effort to collect past-due property taxes from the scofflaws listed in Thursday’s Eagle. Do it statewide.
I hear we have state employees who are considered nonessential. If they are nonessential, why were they hired in the first place?
If the Kansas legislators are going to furlough nonessential workers, I suggest they start with themselves.
To the liberal Democrats who complain constantly about the state of our state, and our city, under Republican rule: I’m sure there are plenty of houses ready for you when you move to Democrat-controlled Cleveland, Baltimore, Detroit, New York, Saint Louis, etc. Go ahead, big shot, make your move.
Politicians have once again shown they have no ethics or concerns for the safety of drivers by allowing political signs between the curb and sidewalks on major streets and intersections. I had to stop behind a car that had stopped to read a sign.
Why are the windows covered on the city buses? Is it so the people paying the bills, the taxpayers, can’t see that the vehicles for this alleged “necessary” service are almost always empty of passengers?
Don’t expect a Trader Joe’s any time soon and especially not in downtown. They rarely go where grocery stores can’t sell wine and liquor. Without that, they require a very large and wealthy clientele.
We still have a convoy of school buses running along 37th Street North several times a day. Do they not know school is out?
Guess what? God and Jesus have no political affiliations or preferences. They don’t favor one country over another. They express unconditional love for everyone.
Why can atheists voice their hatred of Christians, but object to Christians talking about atheists? Are Christians just too loving to fight back?
Just to give fair warning to all those would-be burglars and home invaders out there: If you break into my home, rest assured I will shoot you. So tell your family and friends that’s just the way it is.
A reader whining about homeowners’ associations sounded like someone who didn’t read everything he signed at closing, including the agreement to abide by HOA covenants. If you want to disregard your neighbors’ rights to live peacefully, you have the option of moving. Your neighbors will probably help you pack.
