Opinion Line (Sept. 30)
I hope someone has told the 200 Fort Riley infantry “advisers” being deployed to Iraq that they are not boots on the ground. That will make them feel a lot safer.
It’s a shame the Republican Party doesn’t have a record it can run on and is forced to run against President Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid at both the state and federal levels.
Obama absolutely played a large part in this state’s decline. His opposition to the private aircraft industry helped tank many jobs. We lost much of that tax base thanks to him.
GOP strategist John Weaver hit the nail on the head in calling Pat Roberts “basically furniture in the Senate” (Sept. 28 Now Consider This). Let’s see – if Roberts were a piece of furniture, what would he be? A recliner maybe?
I don’t understand the Democrats’ thinking: Mitt Romney is rich; that is bad. Greg Orman is rich; that is good.
Hey, Ma – I think this Orman guy thinks we’re stupid. He should have tried this in Arkansas.
From kindergarten through graduate school, the morale of teachers (and other public servants) has never been lower in Kansas. How would you like your job prospects to be subject to the whims of our governor and Legislature? Employee morale greatly affects education.
Ironically, the attractive but harried-looking young woman in the Brownback campaign commercial who says she’s voting for “Sam” because of his tax cuts typifies the very group of taxpayers who have not and will not benefit from those giveaways to the wealthy.
Some innocent people have been convicted by sloppy or immoral prosecutors. But when a murderer’s guilt is clear – such as in the cases of BTK and the Carr brothers – execution should follow without trivial delays. We owe innocent victims, and potential future victims, that much.
Way to go, Charlie Weis – taking more than $25 million to not coach the two teams we dislike the most. You’re an inspiration to all of us.
In my second life I want to come back as a college football coach. Do a lousy job and get paid anyway, not only by the team you work for now but by the team you used to work for – all at the same time. Nice work – if you can get it.
The way to get a great retirement is to be hired and fired by KU.
