Legislative gridlock inspiring poetry

The Wichita Eagle

The protracted legislative session is causing a lot of frustration. It’s also inspiring some poetry. Reporters, lobbyists and citizen observers have been posting haiku (the first and third lines have five syllables, and the second line has seven) using the Twitter hashtag “#haiku4ks.” Here are some samples:

It’s said that we get/ The government we deserve/ What did we do wrong?!

Legislative branch:/ Insurmountable gridlock./ Tax dollars at work?

Why so awesome at/ Micromanaging others/ Can’t conduct own biz

Words, words, words, words, words./ So much talk, nothing gets done./ Voters are angry.

Deficit remains/ No ownership of problem/ No resolve in sight.

Leg’s won’t vote on tax/ For fear of ’16 postcards:/ “Your Rep raised taxes!”

It’s about that time/ To call in the great Bob Dole/ If not Chuck Norris

Cons elected by/ Singing “no tax” song for years/ Must now face music

75K/ For Laffer to bankrupt us./ I’d have done it free

No no no no no/ No no no no no no no/ No no no no no
