Opinion Line (June 3)

With the rate increases that are coming, we need to change the name of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) to the Unaffordable Care Act. Then again, Obama is getting much closer to what he wanted – single-payer insurance.

Charles Krauthammer’s May 30 column was spot-on. Doctors would be able to see double the patients per day if it weren’t for the government-mandated electronic records. Don’t be too mad at the doctors if you can’t get scheduled right away.

There’s an excellent Democrat choice for presidential candidate in 2016: Jim Webb, a military veteran who served as secretary of the Navy and U.S. senator – always honorably. But the sensationalist media spotlight that woman from New York who has nowhere near Webb’s real qualifications.

Hillary Clinton – even her hair is a lie.

If Hillary wins, don’t worry. If the House and Senate remain Republican, nothing will happen. The Republicans won’t let her do anything, as they have done with Obama.

Republicans are good at campaigning and getting elected, but they are really bad at governing.

The plan of Gov. Sam Brownback to exempt businesses to “create jobs” is one of the worst financial failures in state history. Yet he refuses to change his tune, which defies all logic. It’s time for an investigation into what the exempted money was really used for.

Losing the Shepler name is as bad as when we lost the Beech name. Please don’t change it.

What is wrong with the big city of Wichita? What were they thinking allowing a Costco to be built at Kellogg and Webb, an intersection that is already very congested?

With all of the new apartments and with 26,000 people working downtown now, WDDC president Jeff Fluhr should be trying to get a Trader Joe’s market downtown. There is no food store within miles, and a store like Trader Joe’s would be a great addition.

Aerial views of the rivers in downtown Wichita are lovely, I am sure. However, the very frequent helicopter flyovers are backyard conversation stoppers. Share the love and fly over the homes of the River Festival organizers.

You’ve got to be kidding. WSU builds a dorm in the middle of campus, taking out a big parking lot, and only now figures out it’s got parking problems? Who’s running this circus anyway?

So if Bruce Jenner says he’s been a girl all along, does “Caitlyn” Jenner have to give up Bruce’s Olympic medals because Bruce was actually a girl when he won them?
