Opinion Line Extra (June 1)

I think the Wichita River Festival folks did a great job with what they have. Not all the best, nor will they ever make everyone happy, but they made a really good try at it. It’s about the music, stupid.

Education and hard work mean everything on the ladder to success.

My dad always said, “It takes a big man to admit when he’s wrong.” Unfortunately for Kansas, Sam Brownback is not a big man.

Can you imagine the nightmares Secretary of State Kris Kobach has over illegal voting? I’ll bet he wakes up every night in a cold sweat.

So Kobach will soon have authority to prosecute alleged election fraud. What happens if the alleged fraud involves the Republican Party? Kobach appears to be the most partisan person we have ever had in that office.

Will the whining losers who have unsubstantiated claims of wrongdoing by the Kansas governor and secretary of state please provide the proof of such or forever shut up and, better still, leave the state?

Dear right-wing media nuts: Just because the president and his administration haven’t shared their plan to deal with ISIS doesn’t mean they don’t have one. Terrorists watch American news, and it would be foolish to publicize any military plans.

Someone wrote, “I don’t care about ISIS.” Clearly no one this person knows has been murdered by ISIS. This type of ignorant statement should make us appreciate our military men and women – who fight for those they will never know – even more.

Since the turmoil in the Middle East is basically two similar religions that are murdering each other, can you imagine the United States if the Catholics and Protestants fought like this?

In negotiations over a nuclear agreement with Iran, President Obama swore he would make no concessions to America’s most dangerous enemy. Unfortunately for him, Congress is holding firm.

If you believe Obama erred in withdrawing from Iraq, then you certainly should believe the first President Bush did. If he’d finished the job he started and not withdrawn, leaving Saddam Hussein in power, then maybe the second President Bush would never have needed to invade Iraq.

If a CEO’s only goal in life is to make himself or herself millions of dollars, that is one sad, morally bankrupt individual.

Take note of the California pipeline spill. Cleaning up a “leak” like that into our aquifer would be just a little more difficult (in other words, impossible) than cleaning up the California mess. Then where would our water for surviving come from? Has anyone seen a pipeline that hasn’t leaked at all?

What’s with this term “mean-spirited”? It’s too many words and too many letters. Someone who is mean-spirited is just plain mean.

What exactly is faith, such that it would allow mistreatment of human beings?
