Opinion Line (May 29)

Kansas needs a law that anytime the House and Senate do not complete their duties in the allotted time, lawmakers will be fined daily the amount of their pay.

Well, you have to admire our Topeka legislators for at least one thing: Once bought, they stay bought. Too bad we are paying the price.

So business owners may have to pay taxes at the same rate of the lowest bracket for wage earners. Really. Couldn’t they pay just a little more than poor folk? Oh, I forgot – they are used to paying nothing.

Legislators in Topeka should know we will be taking names of everyone who votes to raise taxes instead of cutting spending. Voters can easily find replacements for these representatives at the next election.

The odds of hell freezing over are better than a majority of Republican Kansas legislators voting to increase any taxes. End the farce, make the spending cuts, and go home. The people of Kansas will hate you for it, but the business community loves you and you will get re-elected.

I have noticed that none of the candidates running for president wants to talk about paying down the national debt of more than $18 trillion. That debt is going to cook our goose.

I am starting to believe that Bill and Hillary Clinton along with Barack Obama actually believe that the Constitution and all the other laws simply do not apply to them. And I am starting to believe that they are right. How sad.

We watch the news to learn about criminals and politics. When they tell us about Hillary Clinton, they cover both at the same time.

So the IRS was hacked and our financial information is at risk? How lucky for Clinton that she didn’t trust a government system with the security of her e-mails. Maybe she’ll improve that system when she’s president.

Now would be the perfect time to return Texas to Mexico, where it belongs.

Everybody be on the lookout for the flooded cars in Houston. Sometimes they ship them to other states to sell.

Dear family and friends: You sent me your child’s graduation announcement. I either sent a check or gift card. Not a note in the mail or a phone call so far. Please teach your children some manners. “Thank you” never goes out of style.

Riverfest? When did we get too lazy to say “River Festival”? I suppose it would really stress us out to call it by its original name: the Wichitennial River Festival.
