Opinion Line (May 28)

If runners use the city streets for some event or other, shouldn’t I be allowed to legally drive my car along the walking and bike paths?


Most Texans despise the feds. Now look – they want the feds to help big time.


GMO proponents want one consistent standard for labeling. Fine. Require that all GMO foods be clearly labeled. How are consumers and doctors to know if health problems may be related to some GMO foods if labeling is avoided at the whim of FDA bureaucrats and GMO lobbyists?


The only thing the secretary of state is missing is a red cape, with a yellow circle on the back, and a big black “K” in the middle.


I wonder how successful Kris Kobach will be at prosecuting all those voter fraud cases that exist solely in his own mind.


Life seemed a little less confusing when Bruce Jenner was the all-American male athlete all of our boys aspired to be, Bill Cosby was the lovable and avuncular guy on TV selling our children pudding pops, and Ronald Reagan could “negotiate” with Iran in less than 24 hours.


The American dream is not disappearing. It’s the work ethic and the ability to perform the sacrifice it takes to achieve it that have all but disappeared.


If you do not own property and pay property taxes, if you don’t work and pay income taxes, if you are using food stamps – you should not be allowed to vote, period.


Our legislators will deny they can be bought through either money or threats. However, they have no qualms about buying and threatening the state’s judicial system into making only decisions the Legislature favors. So much for the separation of powers.


Now that most people have stopped smoking, Gov. Sam Brownback thinks he’ll make big tax revenues on a huge cigarette tax increase. Why not pass a big tax on Pet Rock and eight-track cartridge sales?


Some say small businesses should sacrifice profits to provide an increase in the minimum wage. Interesting thought, as small-business profit margins are not nearly as high as some people think. And small businesses, unlike government, must make a profit to stay in business.


The “Christian” right is holding Jesus hostage for its own personal gain to manipulate people to vote in favor of corrupt capitalism over what is best for them.


With all that is happening in the world today, do you really think this is a good time to take “God” out of our nation’s Pledge of Allegiance and public places?
