When it comes to civic pride, Wichita is no Scranton, Pa., where just 50.6 percent of residents say they are proud of their community, according to the latest Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index. Nor is Wichita on par with list-topping Des Moines, where 76.5 percent feel civic pride. With 61.5 percent of surveyed Wichitans willing to say they were proud of their community, Wichita came in between Sacramento, Calif., and Pittsburgh, Pa., and behind Omaha, Denver, Oklahoma City, Kansas City (Mo. and Kan.) and Tulsa. What’s it going to take for Wichitans to feel better about Wichita? The survey found a “strong link between residents’ perceptions of feeling safe and secure and their level of community pride.” – Rhonda Holman
