Opinion Line (Sept. 25)

We hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money. How come we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money? What’s interesting is that the first group worked for their benefits; the second didn’t.


Climate change has nothing to do with the climate and everything to do with additional taxation on corporations and the people who buy their products.


So Greg Orman is not only an independent but also independently wealthy. What a disaster for all the fat cats who like their politicians bought and paid for, and how refreshing for Joe Voter. Finally, a politician who’s beholden only to those who elected him.


We all know that the thing a multimillionaire wants the most is to be a multibillionaire. It doesn’t take a large stretch of the imagination to figure out how a congressional office fits into that game plan.


I would rather vote for a person who knows how to make millions of dollars than one who spends millions of dollars but can’t afford a home in Kansas.


It’s interesting that Sen. Pat Roberts is bringing Republican politicians who have failed in their runs for higher office. Is this indicative of his ability to generate enthusiasm in his own party?


Orman has a huge monetary war chest and has voted for and contributed to Democrats, and now the Democrat candidate leaves the Senate race. It appears Democrats’ tactics to sneak the person they want into office are now in Kansas.


There are so many commercials on TV right now that it gets confusing. For a while there I thought Greg Orman was selling cars and Dawson Grimsley was running for public office.


What has happened to our sensibilities in advertising? Billboards advertising a male erection clinic, and now women dancing a jig on TV while advertising feminine napkins. This stuff should be on the last two pages of some obscure magazine.


It’s time to clear the vagrants out of Central Riverside Park. I thought there was an ordinance against camping in the parks. Why is this being tolerated? It’s not safe for children to be in certain parts of the park.


There are simple things we could do to improve our economy and society. First, it’s not smart to close our post offices, banks and even our libraries on every little holiday. It restricts commerce, hurting our entire economy.
