Opinion Line Extra (May 21)

We are worried about homegrown terrorists, yet we have businesses wanting excess immigrants in the country to fill jobs at lower pay when there are qualified Americans. I am tired of business interests overtaking security.

George H.W. Bush once said, “Read my lips, no new taxes.” If sounds like a duck, it probably is. Who was it who said, “The sun is always shining in Kansas”? Quack, quack. It was Gov. Sam Brownback. The Sunflower State is underwater.

So Brownback and the geniuses in the Legislature blow a hole in the state budget you could float an oil tanker through to give a free ride to business owners so they can jack up their lifestyles so the rest of us will have to pay higher sales taxes to make up for it.

Americans for Prosperity needs to change its name to Certain Americans for Prosperity, as it does not care for anyone else. With greed being one of the seven deadly sins, why do Republicans in Kansas continue to follow AFP’s mandates and not govern for all Kansans?

So it bothers you that people are laughing at Kansas? Move. Problem solved.

This nation needs GOP and GOD.

Catholic schools can charge tuition and can pick and choose the students they want. Public schools can’t do either. Public schools must educate everyone, which is why public schools need more money. Comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges.

Did Timothy McVeigh hate all aspects of government, or just some of the things the federal government was doing or had done? We never heard much about that, did we? Too complicated for media sound bites and short attention spans.

It is always such a pleasure to watch KSN when there is rain in the area. Nothing like interrupting the network broadcast by Chicken Little (aka Dave Freeman) to announce the sky is falling (aka rain is coming) near Wichita.

Two young females in a raised GMC Denali, smoking cigarettes – and parked in a Dillons handicap spot. Hmm. Disappointing the way our society is trending.

How many more Duggar family births is the TV audience going to experience before the novelty wears off? They like irresponsibly popping out multiple babies, as though that is all there is to life. We got it. Enough already.

The art portion of this year’s Art and Book Fair was very disappointing. I hope the organizers will consider returning to the old format. Having both local and nonlocal artists offer art of all kinds was much more engaging than what, this year, was a gallery exhibition of small works.

This country is doomed when a restaurant host is absolutely clueless about what to do when a customer doesn’t have a cellphone so the restaurant can notify them when a table is ready.
