Opinion Line Extra (May 20)

What happened to Republicans wanting smaller government and less control over our lives? Everything I have witnessed lately from the Kansas Legislature is just the opposite. Hypocrisy at its finest.

All of us pay for tax breaks for the business owners, and the wealthy. When will these folks run out of other people’s money? Never. Not until a governor is in office and legislators understand the two easiest arithmetic functions of the basic four: addition and subtraction.

It seems to me that business owners in the Legislature should recuse themselves from voting on whether to reinstitute some of their huge tax cuts that businesses like theirs got by the tax changes that are bankrupting Kansas.

I love this: Sen. Jeff Melcher “said he wasn’t comfortable changing the zero tax rate for business owners who have it now, because many have shaped their business plans around it.” But he doesn’t have a problem taking money from families and schools that planned for it? Keep it up, Taliban.

Newton Rep. Marc Rhoades: You and the others don’t look “schizophrenic,” you look delusional. Solve the state budget problems and go home.

It’s a little late to worry about what people might think about Kansas. This Newtonian knows many who for several years have been able to see that Kansans are “foolish” and “schizophrenic” when it comes to state government.

With sales taxes going up, it looks like I will be shopping for my new car in Oklahoma.

Taxpayers pay plenty to allow people choices whether to remain or escape the poverty rolls, but cannot make anyone choose one way or the other.

I get pretty irate when the media try to change the outcome of the Amtrak train wreck story. Going 106 mph in a 50 mph zone, on a curve, is human error. Period.

I’m over 50 and cannot find anyone who will hire me. I met a man with an engineering degree who’s working in a hardware store. What a great economy and country Obama and his Democrat minions have created.

In regard to a comment about Hillary Clinton flipping on previous positions: Have you ever heard the saying, “Smart people change their minds, fools never do”?

To the liberals who can’t see The Eagle is extremely one-sided in its reporting: Please open your eyes to the Kansas views and cartoons in the Opinion pages. The editorials written by the staff could have been written by your favorite liberal, Hillary Clinton. There is nothing positive about Republicans.

Regarding the situation at WSU and the women’s basketball team: How would that have worked out if the head coach had been male rather than female?

B.B. King was a trailblazer who led us through unsettled territory. There will never be anyone like him again.
