The Legislature already exceeded its planned 90-day session, and each additional day costs taxpayers about $43,000 – adding to the state’s budget shortfall. Senate President Susan Wagle, R-Wichita, said that lawmakers need to show a willingness to compromise. If they don’t, Wagle appears ready to punish uncooperative lawmakers, such as when she decides committee assignments next year. “In a business, the boss gets to say which way things are going,” Wagle told the Topeka Capital-Journal. “And if people don’t follow, oftentimes they don’t keep their job or certainly they’re not promoted.” – Phillip Brownlee
