Opinion Line (May 18)

Some Kansas legislators want to eliminate medical expense as an itemized deduction. Medical expense is not a choice. You either pay it or die. Kansas has no respect for seniors or poor people.

I have my answer to Brownback’s and other Republicans’ class warfare. I am leaving and taking my $80,000 income out of state.

Small-business profits are not taxed. I’ll bet you didn’t know that small-business losses are counted as income. And taxed. Why would anyone invest in starting a new business in Kansas if losses count as taxable income? Make money; keep it all. Lose money; pay an extra punitive tax.

A full-page ad by the American Medical Association thanked Sens. Jerry Moran and Pat Roberts. Next we should see an ad from the 330,000 Kansans who got a pass on state income taxes. But don’t expect an ad from the Kansans who are paying for the gift.

The money problems in the school system start with people getting triple-digit salaries living high on the hog, and they don’t even work a full year. They are the people stealing the education the children should have.

If you want new leadership for Kansas, fold a sheet of copy paper in half and spray-paint a red dot in the middle, and tape it in your rear window. Let them know.

If you think County Commissioner Jim Howell is a joke, please drive with your daytime running lights on today.

Leonard Pitts Jr. writes about anti-government ideology that is supposedly mainstream in the Republican Party. Pitts is doing his part to distract us from the real anti-government types, his fellow Democrats rioting in Baltimore and Ferguson.

The number of readers who have risen in defense of Leonard Pitts is a clear barometer of just how pervasive the hate-filled, race-baiting faction has become within the Democratic Party.

Calling The Eagle a liberal newspaper in beyond ridiculous. Kansas conservatives are so extreme anymore that they wouldn’t recognize one of the two liberals left in this state if he was wearing a sign proclaiming it.

Apparently, overbearing government interference into some individuals’ lives remains insufficient. If you need nosy busybodies with too much time on their hands dictating your every move in your own home, buy one in a community with a homeowners’ association.

Would the kind man who found a wallet in the street at 35th Street North and Park Place, and returned it to my home address, please come back for a proper reward? I had no money in the wallet when lost, so nothing to give him then.
