Levy graduation was small but meaningful

Perhaps the most meaningful Wichita graduation ceremony this spring was also one of its smallest. Levy Special Education Center graduated nine students at a ceremony Tuesday evening at the Arc of Sedgwick County. Commencement speakers spoke of perseverance, courage and overcoming obstacles. There also was recognition that the challenges these students and their families face will continue, and that they will have to keep fighting for services. But the evening was filled with joy and celebration, and appreciation for the caring staff at Levy. As Wichita assistant superintendent Neil Guthrie said at the ceremony, “we all matter.” And because each of these students matters, they deserve to have their names mentioned on Kansas.com: Joey Anderson, Tiera Foreman-Henderson, Steven Kurtz, Tyler Love, Travis Ritthaler, Grant Sauer, Reed Sauer, Shakindria Smith and Rosalyn Weber-Sells. – Phillip Brownlee
