State lawmakers received a bit of good financial news earlier this week. The Kansas Department of Revenue reported that it finished opening tax returns and deposited about $129 million worth of checks. Though lawmakers grumbled about the delay, KDOR said that it processed tax returns at about the same pace as in previous years. Now it needs to promptly pay people’s tax refunds. – Phillip Brownlee
