Kansas has sent only one Johnson Countian to Senate

If Greg Orman manages to deny Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., a fourth term, the Olathe businessman would be only the second Johnson Countian elected to represent Kansas in the U.S. Senate and the first since 16-year Sen. James Pearson of Prairie Village left office in 1978. Though Johnson County is now Kansas’ most populous, eclipsing Sedgwick County by about 61,000 residents, the Kansas Historical Society website shows senators as having hailed more often from Shawnee (five), Sedgwick (four) and Leavenworth (four) counties. – Rhonda Holman
