Moderates now ‘attacking from outside the gates’

For several years, some conservative Republicans have actively encouraged moderate Republicans to leave the GOP, mocking them as RINOs (Republican in name only). But Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne wrote that moderates are rising up in states such as Kansas and could help decide key statewide elections. “Republicans are learning that the cost of driving moderates away could get very high,” Dionne wrote. “What middle-of-the-roaders could not accomplish inside the party, they may achieve by attacking from outside the gates.” Or as former Wichita congressman Dan Glickman told Dionne: “The moderates have said, ‘I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore.’” – Phillip Brownlee
