Opinion Line (May 13)

To quote an old cynic, it appears the leadership of the Sedgwick County Commission knows the price of everything but the value of nothing.

I hope the County Commission will keep the Sedgwick County Zoo funding agreement, because I trust the zoo to spend taxpayer money responsibly and with accountability. The zoo made plans because of commitments made on behalf of taxpayers, and it would be wrong to go back on our word.

Can someone help me? I can’t locate the part of the state constitution that gives me a right to have access to a reasonably priced zoo funded by others.

Whining about County Commissioner Jim Howell because he is doing exactly what the voters in his district and the county as a whole want him to do? He was elected to the Legislature and did the same thing. What he’s doing is no surprise to the intelligent and informed.

We are going to have criminals running the streets because, thanks to the backlash against our officers, the police will hesitate to stop anyone. Don’t break the law or run from authority and you won’t have to worry about overreaction from the police. Just look at Hattiesburg, Miss.

Criminals should be required to wear body cameras.

We want officers to wear body cameras. Why not require it of all elected officials, too? And maybe if we all wear one, it would be even more interesting.

It’s ironic how many who say they hate the government are also seeking to become its leaders. Could it be that they are just control freaks who aren’t in control of the government right now? Of course, it’s “in” in some circles to say you hate the government.

I hated to see Paul Davis get beat out of the governorship, but am thankful now it happened that way. Imagine how those Republicans in Topeka would have tried to nail him on the budget mess. Now they have only themselves to blame.

What type of person would steal garage sale signs? Last year someone on a bike was seen taking one of mine. This year I lost two. These are metal signs that I buy and take the time to make and paint. I consider this very tacky and inconsiderate.

My latest pet peeve? Rain barrels painted like clown cars. Come on, people. If you think you have to have one, put it behind your house.

A perfect example of a good neighbor is one who puts jacks under his abandoned cars so the tires don’t look flat. Like mine.
