Though his Secretary of State’s Office is responsible for handling annual business reports, Kris Kobach was nearly three weeks late in filing two of his own – for Kobach Law LLC and firearms manufacturer Minuteman Defense LLC, the Hutchinson News reported. Kobach is the resident agent for both businesses, and a shareholder of the firearms manufacturer. Asked by the News about having missed the April 15 deadline, Kobach said many businesses file during the 90-day grace period, that “this year has been extremely hectic with the Legislature” and that his fifth daughter was born April 10. But Kobach has defiantly maintained he can do his state job while moonlighting as a lawyer fighting illegal immigration (and as a radio host and cable news guest), and even wants the Legislature to give him prosecutorial powers. As the News editorialized, “maybe Kobach should spend a little less time worrying about all the rules that everyone is supposedly breaking and spend a little more time making sure he’s not breaking the rules, especially the rules that are enforced by his office.” – Rhonda Holman
