When the Wichita school board votes to pay the bond manager $40,000 a month this year and $20,000 a month next year for its continued service, I see why Gov. Sam Brownback and his crew assume schools have sufficient funds – if spent judiciously.
Kansas already spends more than $13,000 per public school student per year. That is obviously not enough. I think $15,000 or $16,000 a student would solve all our problems, don’t you?
I hope all of you people who voted Republican to keep your taxes low will enjoy your increased property and sales taxes.
First, Kansas legislators eliminated income taxes on small businesses. Now they are trying to make up these revenue losses by increasing taxes. I guess they think two wrongs make a right.
If lowering taxes really does create growth, then why are Brownback and the Legislature scrambling to raise every other tax just to pay for their cuts to the income tax?
How about instead of increasing sales tax, we start collecting on the millions in delinquent taxes statewide? I’m sick of seeing the pages of taxes due that The Eagle prints every year just from Sedgwick County. You’re punishing the wrong folks, Governor.
Paul Davis had it right with his TV ad. That car going backward on the dirt road seems to be accelerating, and it won’t be long before it hits a rut and spins off into the ditch. Then the other states can drive by and rubberneck at the wreck of Kansas.
Don’t review me harshly. Don’t make me do extra work to help me improve. Don’t imply that you hired me and you can fire me. Don’t make me feel threatened of losing my position. That’s the type of employer I’m looking for in the future. And no pushups.
Perhaps coach Jody Adams should have a prerequisite for the WSU women’s basketball team: a two-week stint in the U.S. Marine Corps boot camp. That should make them feel lucky to be on the team, rather than whine about verbal and mental abuse. Go, coach! Go, Shox!
Thank you to all the people who voted for Jim Howell over Dion Avello in the County Commission primary. See what you’ve done? Likely funding cuts for the zoo and Exploration Place, illogical audit expenses for building purchases. Avello would have moved us forward, not taken us backward.
Why Obama’s lemmings decided to have Susan Rice deliver a less-than-convincing patriotic message at the World War II Memorial in honor of V-E Day is beyond me. Despite her attempts at bamboozling the American public over the Libyan affair, she is still a liar and political hack.
British Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg resigned after suffering a “cruel and punishing” election defeat. That is the same thing that happened to the Democratic Party in 2012. President Obama’s response was that he heard the voters who didn’t vote. At least some people accept reality.
