Roberts needs to stop talking about his home
It seems as if whenever Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., talks about his home, he gets in trouble – such as when he told an interviewer that he returns home to Kansas “whenever I get an opponent,” then quickly corrected the gaffe. His latest comments came during Saturday’s State Fair debate, when Roberts declared that his “home is Dodge City.” When pressed by his challenger, independent Greg Orman, Roberts said that he had been home “about seven” times this year. Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post did the math: “Saturday Sept. 6 – the day of the debate – was the 249th day of the year. So, that means that Roberts has been home, roughly, every 35 days this year since the start of the year.” The Hill newspaper also reported this week that Roberts lists his Virginia residence as his home on Federal Election Commission campaign reimbursement documents. Cillizza’s advice to Roberts: “Stop talking – especially about where you lay your head at night.” – Phillip Brownlee
