Wichita native Kerry Gooch was named this week as the new executive director of the Kansas Democratic Party. The 24-year-old is one of the youngest state directors in the nation. Gooch previously served as the party’s political director. He is the grandson of U.L. “Rip” Gooch, a former Wichita City Council member and state senator. Some of his earliest memories are sitting with his grandfather in the Senate chambers. “I saw the things my grandfather was able to accomplish and wanted to help people the way he did,” Gooch told the Topeka Capital-Journal. – Phillip Brownlee
