Opinion Line Extra (May 7)

After being trashed by Obama, Baltimore’s mayor and Maryland’s congressional delegation, why doesn’t the Baltimore police force just quit en masse? Go get a job where law and order is appreciated.

Unkind thought while following the rioting in Baltimore: The mayor has two qualifications for the office she holds. She has a pulse and is a Democrat.

They forgot to charge the janitor with murder in the Freddie Gray case.

A 12-year-old kid can shut up Obama? I wonder if he would consider a full-time job?

Surely there has to be a more qualified, honorable woman in this country than Hillary Clinton. I’m afraid she will be elected just because she’s a woman.

All Hillary Clinton need do to put an end to E-mailgate is cite conservative Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt’s ruling that public business conducted using private e-mail accounts is not subject to public scrutiny.

By accepting a frighteningly weak deal with Iran, President Obama is endangering Israel and he is endangering the United States. Clearly, the draft of the agreement is a dramatic security blunder that will assure a nuclear-armed Iran. One-man rule may make sense in Tehran, but not here.

I love this new “people’s pope.” He keeps telling conservative Catholics that their “deeply held beliefs” are not religious, but they just won’t listen.

The best available cash cow for the state are the golden-egg-laying casinos. Open up state-run casinos in every town. If you still need more money, casinos in every block in every town. Watch how quickly the budget deficit evaporates.

I may not like admitting I voted for Sam Brownback, but I don’t mind saying I didn’t vote for Paul Davis. Did the Republicans get to pick their opponents in the last elections? They only won because we chose the best of the worst.

How will tax breaks for small businesses help them grow if the ultimate result of successful growth will result eventually in their potential of losing that tax break? The present tax program encourages them to grow, but only to a certain level.

Our governor and Legislature have given tax breaks to wealthy businesses, putting our state into a $400 million deficit despite the budget cuts. Now some want to put the tax burden on the middle class and poor, by using sales tax increases on gas, tobacco and liquor. Way to go, GOP.

It’s so nice to hear from our Kansas emperor basking in the sun still shining in the land of Oz (“Tax policy growing Kansas,” April 29 Opinion). But who ends up paying the bill for his fantasy trip?

Please run the governor’s commentary, “Tax policy growing Kansas,” through a fact check. He always says the same things, but that’s not what I see in our Wichita economy.
