Opinion Line (May 6)
I wonder how many people who find cartooning the prophet Muhammad to be amusing or “free expression” also believe those who burn the American flag should go before a firing squad.
I am white and grew up in a white neighborhood in the 1950s. Our juvenile delinquents were called thugs and punks – no color assigned, just defined by their actions.
It doesn’t matter what happened. The Baltimore officers were going to be prosecuted. Classic example of the tail wagging the dog.
Those who say “If you’re not guilty, then don’t run” need to spend time in the wrong neighborhood with the wrong color of skin. You have no idea how some human beings are being treated, and why they fear some (not all) police officers so much.
Life has been hard for average citizens, and the people of Kansas want a governor who is going to negotiate the best benefits for every citizen. Party preference has done nothing but starve the flock.
The Topeka server should have been fired on the spot. She treated a customer with disrespect. Why didn’t she accept a tip and then donate it to the schools? She just wanted her 15 minutes of fame.
Regarding the Kansas GOP director blasting the waitress: Really? I read her message as saying, “I don’t want your money. Just do your job as governor.”
Tip the schools.
Sam Brownback for president.
As long as Brownback and his cronies continue the folly of tax-free small-business owners, I will only purchase from large corporations in this state. At least I know they are not tax-exempt.
The reason that folks are upset about reductions in spending by the Kansas Legislature is that they see their gravy train coming to an end.
The “shortage” of funds for schools lies directly with parents. They do not pay their fair share for their broods. They expect taxpayers to foot the entire bill. Pay your own way.
Is it the city of Wichita that gives homeowners’ association board members the right to bully, harass and threaten homeowners? We have never lived anywhere else where such behavior is allowed. There is something very wrong in our neighborhood.
I have to endure Wednesday columns by Cal Thomas and Saturday columns by Charles Krauthammer, so there is no reason for people to whine about Leonard Pitts on Mondays. Thank God we have a newspaper that presents different opinions on the Opinion page.
