It’s great to see the burst of construction going on at McConnell Air Force Base in preparation for the new KC-46A tankers’ arrival in summer 2016, and to know that it involves local subcontractors and hundreds of workers. Already the world’s largest KC-135 base, McConnell was the Air Force’s smart pick for an active-duty base and regional training center for Boeing’s next generation of air-refueling tankers. The 16 construction projects will total $267 million, and affirm McConnell’s crucial value to both the U.S. military and the Wichita community for many years to come. – Rhonda Holman
