Opinion Line Extra (May 1)

If you earn your money through your own enterprise, or from the goodness of your family, you can do what you want. But when it is given to you by a coercive government that has taken it from others, then naturally there will be conditions attached.

Increasing the “sin taxes” on tobacco and alcohol won’t fix the revenue shortfall, because the biggest sin remains untaxed. It is a sin that those people with ample means (business owners) pay nothing for Kansas income tax but those less able (employees) still pay.

The governor’s and NRA’s misinterpretation of the 1700s Second Amendment means more guns and untrained cowboys and a less safe state.

I hope the Koch brothers are building a home in Palm Springs for Sam Brownback to live in after he leaves the governor’s mansion. And I hope it is a very large house, so he can take some of his radical-right legislators with him.

Brownback told us all was well. “Just cut taxes,” they said. Now, schools are closing, the highway fund was raided, and we’re still broke. Cuts went to the rich and now they will raise taxes on the rest of us to pay for it. Republican ideology is a disaster.

Too bad the Boston Marathon isn’t in Texas, where the death penalty for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev would be a sure thing. In Massachusetts, a death penalty sentence would be just the first step to having a death sentence commuted to “life.”

When President Bush left office, the stock market was at 7,949 and had wiped out half of everybody’s 401(k)s and stocks, and nobody went to jail. Now the stock market is nearly 18,000. We do not need another Bush in office. Like father, like son and son.

Lobbyists are no longer needed in Washington D.C. You simply make a sizable donation to the Clinton Foundation, and your wish comes true. Want to sell your uranium company to Russia so as to reap a huge windfall profit? No problem. Just send your money to the Clintons.

Radical Muslims, and their sympathizer, are spreading their ungodly ways around the world. Feeding, clothing, arming and training all displaced men, women and children to help take back their countries may very well be part of the solution.

Funny. When the “people have spoken” about marijuana law, it is supposed to be done and over. When the people vote against abortion and “gay marriage,” we have to have the courts negate the will of the people.

CNN’s Erin Burnett is constantly using the race card to keep ratings up. If you watch the reporting on the subject on racism, she practically tries to trick people into saying racism was the cause. I believe everyone should be treated fairly.
