Opinion Line (April 23)

Let’s face it: The real reason for Gov. Sam Brownback’s $25 limit on ATM withdrawals for people trapped on welfare is that it’s all that Kansas has enough money for. We’re broke.

Arthur Laffer said, “Kansas is doing fine.” That is the most laughable statement I have ever heard, and, no, I am not sorry about the pun.

Brownback must be a complete idiot at math. The more taxes he raises – be it on food, liquor, tobacco or gas – the less people are going to spend on these items. Less spending, less revenue, so of course his experts’ projections are way short.

Does The Eagle editorial staff think it is all right for people on welfare to use taxpayers’ dollars to purchase things like tattoos, cigarettes, booze, etc.?

I sure could have used a handout last weekend when I needed two new tires. No one gives me money for anything. If I want to get my nails done, I have to come up with it myself.

As long as people make more on welfare than they do working, those promising a welfare society will win. But raise the minimum wage and employers will raise their prices, still promoting a welfare state. There need to be term limits on all politicians, and welfare recipients as well.

Obama’s legacy will be crushed when “all his men” start writing their memoirs of their time working during this oppressed time in government.

Science eventually proves misguided political beliefs wrong. That is why belief-based politicians hate science and campaign against it.

I do not know of any woman in our country’s history who has done anything to justify replacing the great Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill. The idea is an insult to this country’s history.

To accept God as an omnipotent, all-powerful being means you have to give up the idea that you are going to control things from down here. God has a plan, and it’s going to happen with or without your actions. Why fight against it or for it?

With the new age technology, I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before we’re all gods.

It’s amazing how employers won’t communicate with their employees. They will have a meeting and repeat the same stuff they do every meeting, instead of information to make employees feel “in the know.” Boring and unproductive.

I’m not sure I understand why businesses have websites. You contact them; they never respond. They don’t list their addresses or hours. Why bother?
