Opinion Line Extra (April 17)

It isn’t censorship, restricting access by children, or yanking offensive books off public library shelves to move books with same-sex marriage themes out of children’s sections of libraries and into the adolescent book section.

Jesus taught “Love thy neighbor.” I’ve never seen anything about “Thou shalt bake thy gay neighbor’s wedding cake.”

I don’t understand why the intolerant left only targets Christian beliefs. Try to get a gay wedding catered by an intolerant Muslim bakery.

Love the Christians. Hate their nasty, judgmental attitudes.

First he repeals anti-discrimination safeguards for gay state employees. Now our vindictive governor signs a bill that keeps welfare recipients from using food stamps on cruise ships. Less publicity on the stupid laws, governor, and more on the real political moves you want to keep hidden.

The Legislature has passed so many strange and unusual laws it is a wonder that Kansas hasn’t been drummed out of the union.

Phillip Brownlee asked if the Koch groups are calling the shots with the Legislature (April 9 Now Consider This). That’s like asking if the pope is Catholic. Wake up, Kansas voters. These people do not represent you.

Is the dog catcher next for Koch and the hard-liners to finance a campaign on?

The premise of any democratically elected government is to keep the majority of its citizenry happy and healthy. The happiest folks are the ones you see on TV game shows winning big-ticket items. It is time for government to establish a “Department of Freebies” and give away stuff that makes people happy.

How many more lives have to end before white people understand that not all cops are good cops? They run to other cops’ defense, no matter the circumstances. Cops have learned all they have to say is “I feared for my life.” Good cops must report bad ones.

If Hillary Clinton believes her own statements on equality, she will choose a woman to run with her for vice president.

I agree that Ronald Reagan was a transformative president. He ushered in 18 percent home mortgage rates, for those of you who have forgotten what his economic policies brought us.

I’m a born and raised Kansas farm “girl” in my 70s. I agreed with easing marijuana-possession penalties so our police and courts can spend their time on more serious crimes. Because I voted for Jeff Longwell, I’m now labeled “part of the marijuana culture”? I thought I was being reasonable.

A man in Indonesia was arrested for flying in the wheel well of a commercial airliner. Some people will do anything to avoid that center seat.

The newspeople on TV need raises. Obviously they can’t afford new clothing, as they are wearing suits that they have outgrown.

Do people not know the difference between the words “loose” and “lose”? I just love it when I read, “I think he was loosing his mind.”
