Opinion Line Extra (April 15)

I hope the city doesn’t take all summer to get the sand off the streets. The sand is dangerous to motorcycles, bicycles and people walking. Let’s hope the city does a better job in 2015.

The people of Wichita have a right to vote on anything they want. However, the state of Kansas will say, “Shut up. We don’t care what you want.” Your vote does not count in Topeka. They are too busy raising your taxes to give somebody’s business a tax break.

Kris Kobach doggedly goes after illegals and the elderly for nonexistent voter fraud, but refuses to cooperate to see if there is voter fraud in voting machines, which is suspected by several statisticians. Something’s rotten in Doo-Dah.

Wichita schools keep crying that they need more money, yet are sitting on five vacant buildings they refuse to sell. We remember the story of the little boy who cried “Wolf!”once too often.

Why is it that Republicans like Gov. Sam Brownback cut taxes for businesses and their rich buddies, but when they need more money they want to raise taxes on the middle class and poor, like with sales taxes?

Let’s pass a law tying educational funding to student test scores. Let’s pass another to allow for more cronyism in state government by eliminating pre-employment tests for potential government employees. Notice any hypocrisy here? The clowns are still hard at work.

Has everyone in Kansas gone wacko, or is it just the governor and the Legislature?

The left is fine when government restricts freedom, but when that rare law comes along that reiterates it, they melt down like Hillary Clinton at a Benghazi hearing.

The reason we need religious freedom laws (which are nearly identical to federal law) even though we have the Constitution is because our government, the very purpose of whose existence is to guarantee our freedoms, has itself become openly hostile toward religion, particularly Christianity and Judaism.

All a religious freedom law has to say is, “No individual or business who objects to same-sex marriage on religious or moral grounds can be compelled to participate in same.” Gays will continue to be able to go to lunch, rent a house or get a job.

Odd how people use the Constitution to uphold their right to conceal-carry but totally ignore the constitutional right to equality.

If Westar Energy wants to improve electric service, start putting power lines underground where possible. I know it would be expensive, but so is losing power and fixing downed power poles.

War ended communism? The last time I checked it was alive and well in China, Cuba and North Korea to name a few.
