Opinion Line (April 14)

Since the early days to the present, families have ruled our country. Now it may happen again. Are we a dynasty or a democracy?

Hillary Clinton qualified for president? Really? First lady? A do-nothing senator? A secretary of state who did nothing but burn jet fuel all over the world? Whitewater? Travelgate? Benghazi? The Clinton Foundation scandal? The Clintons are nothing but crooks.

Clinton represents another successful change in America: women in power. She’ll be a great president. And there’s no doubt that the deep-red pessimists who dominate Kansas will hate her for it.

WSU president John Bardo said he’d appeal the NCAA ruling regarding violations of the WSU baseball program, then didn’t do it. Not a very good example of supporting a longtime, successful coach like Gene Stephenson and the program. Thanks for nothing.

The victory by Jordan Spieth in the Masters tournament was very impressive. Equally impressive was the way the 21-year-old handled the win. Arrogant, self-absorbed professional athletes, please take note.

Require that scholarship athletes sign an enforceable four-year contract with financial penalties for breach. Set up a minor league organization for prepping one-and-done players for the pros. Let’s get the NCAA back to real college student-athletes.

A surgeon tried to get me to agree to an unnecessary procedure. A dentist tried to give me an implant when a simple crown fixed the problem. Now, a heating guy lies to get me to buy a furnace. Has the entire country turned into a bunch of con artists?

We have this wonderful, beautiful, new airport terminal opening soon, but did anyone give a thought to the rough, ugly and over-repaired roads going to and from the airport? These roads should be as wonderful, beautiful and new as the terminal.

I’d guess the 54 percent of voters who supported the marijuana issue were part of the 59 percent who voted for Jeff Longwell, as he had approved including it on the ballot. That suggests 92 percent of his support is part of the marijuana culture. However, 84 percent of registered voters didn’t care enough to vote.

I think the No. 1 priority for our new mayor should be solving the water problem. No. 2: Use smaller and more efficient buses.

Kansas receives millions of dollars from casino and lottery gambling. If gambling is so great, why can’t people on welfare gamble?

Are there any Kansas taxpayers who think welfare money should be used for entertainment, gambling, tattoos or strip clubs?
