Opinion Line (April 13)

Two-thousand years ago the Romans were building canals and aqueducts from where the water was to where it was needed. Too bad we don’t have leaders who understand that concept.

For years the Republicans have preached the gospel of empowering local government. They support local government – except when they don’t.

Ironically, there are some KU grads who support special civil liberties for gays, but still harbor discriminatory language against neighboring college attendees.

The destruction of the WSU golf course to accommodate buildings and roads is forcing raccoons, opossums, woodchucks and birds to find shelter behind buildings and cars. It seems as if every day more trees are being cut down. What is the WSU Innovation Campus doing to protect the animals?

The fiberglass strewn over the fields from the April 3 storm needs to be collected and disposed of properly by the parties responsible. There are health-related problems to humans and animals from fiberglass.

Come October, I will no longer shop in Andover. Lots of people in surrounding towns won’t. Raising sales taxes is not bright in these economic times.

I have sent petitions that I’ve signed to Sen. Pat Roberts, and have received more replies from him in the past three months than I had in the past five years. It seems he is working more and not relaxing in his recliner this year. Good for him.

Maybe it’s just me, but I just don’t see Pat Roberts as a great arbiter of artistic taste as far as the Eisenhower Memorial or anything else is concerned.

Thanks to The Eagle for providing Wichita and surrounding areas with top-notch, up-to-date and nonbiased articles. I wake up to my Eagle every day.

The Eagle editorial board is way too concerned about what late-night talk-show hosts say about Kansas. They joke about everyone, New York and California included. You only reveal your insecurities by being so thin-skinned. I’m really tired of your inferiority complex.

Let’s encourage our children to be part of the group that every day pursues their abilities, their skills, their passions, their opportunities, and to not be part of the group that bullies, boos and seeks political power and selfish motives.

People complain about the roads in Wichita. They complain when there are orange cones all over the place. Make up your mind which is worse.
