Congratulations, Jeff Longwell. Now, find us some water and get the streets fixed. All the fluff stuff can wait.

How refreshing that voters chose to elect the mayoral candidate who chose not to run negative and very questionable political ads. Perhaps there is hope for us yet.

The results of Tuesday’s election show that character, integrity and basic core values played no role in the votes cast by some 22,000 voters in the mayor’s race.

Sam Williams complained that he didn’t know what politics would be like, and said he is now “not too crazy about what it’s like.” His disappointment must be with the fact that all of the mud he was slinging turned out to be a total waste of good mud.

I see nearly all the people The Eagle endorsed (and I voted against) won. No surprise there, but marijuana passing did surprise me. I figured the stoners would be so high that they would forget to go vote. But I’m the most cynical person in town.

Way to go, Wichita – your voice has been heard. Let’s hear it for the next step: Legalize marijuana in your lifetime.

When did Republicans become the social engineers they used to accuse Democrats of being? I don’t care if someone blows the food stamps on lobster and has to eat ramen noodles the rest of the week. Give a certain amount of money and don’t worry about what they blow it on.

Do you really want your tax dollars spent for liquor, porn, cigarettes and strip joints? How would that help a poor family?

Does anybody doubt the thing that makes the world go round is what kept Gregg Marshall at WSU? I’m trying to figure out which he is better at – playing the coquette for adoring media to gain negotiating leverage, or snagging almighty dollars from basketball fans to become a multimillionaire.

WSU does not jeopardize its education funds to pay Marshall. It’s covered by community individuals wanting Wichita nationally respected as a basketball powerhouse. Someone has worked for those funds. They should be able to spend them as they choose. We should all shout “Thanks!”

I spent 27 months working with young soldiers in Afghanistan. We stood in the TV tent and watched the Shockers win the NIT. It’s how they stayed connected to home and brought a little sanity to war. Gregg Marshall and the Shocks did more for morale than you realize.

When will someone open a saloon in Old Town called OK Corral?
