Opinion Line (April 6)

I wish I had known when my kids were at East High School that all they needed to earn a letter was for me to buy them one.

Of course special-needs athletes should have recognition and letter awards. However, the definition of the word “varsity” should not be changed. Varsity is the main team that represents a school or club. There should be a distinction made, with the letters being different.

A varsity letter signifies that its recipient was a qualified varsity team member awarded after a certain standard was met. To have a letter and not have met the criteria necessary to earn it debases – if not nullifies – the purpose for awarding letters in the first place.

Life is not fair, so drop the nonissue of varsity letters.

The left has been actively working to destroy the family unit and traditional moral values in America for decades, and has made a lot of headway. Have you ever wondered how it is that homosexuals have become a protected class?

I recall those in the gay community asking that others stay out of their bedroom. What a change today. They want the public to be exposed to their displays of affection and to sanction their marriages. Please keep the displays of affection private, and keep marriage for two able to procreate.

News flash to the right: There is a long list of other things beside being homosexual or having an abortion that hold equal punishment. If you are not doing any of them, congratulations. You are not a hypocrite.

What Gregg Marshall does is entertainment. The lowest-ranked kid in the Army or Marines who puts his life on the line every day, where things count, is contributing a lot more to the country than any basketball coach. It’s a game that means nothing.

I like Gregg Marshall, and WSU still has the best coach there is. I hope we get to say that about a WSU football coach sometime.

The Fleetwood Mac concert – what a terrible experience. Not the band, but the venue, drunks and people lacking manners and respect. Where were SMG, the fire marshal, security and the Wichita Police Department, and why didn’t they stop people from standing on the stairs?

It will be interesting to see which is completed first, the city of Wichita road construction on Douglas between Rock and Webb roads, or the new construction of the Costco building. Both were started at about the same time.

If school buses pass you on Kellogg, you shouldn’t be on the road.
