Music Theatre finishes strong 46th season
Employees at Music Theatre of Wichita have spent every waking minute since Sunday’s “Newsies” finale breaking down the set and clearing out various corners of Century II’s Concert Hall (and all of its basement nooks and crannies). They’re closing up shop for 2017, which marked a 46th successful season as the city’s home to Broadway-level shows.
Music Theatre scrambles to be cleaned up by Tuesday and returned to the confines of its second-floor Century II offices and its basement storage area. Sets and other major pieces of equipment return to one of two downtown warehouses, where they’re cared for before being shipped out for use by another theatrical company or a school.
Music Theatre continues to be a rarity as a theater company anchored to a city our size. Congratulations to MTW for another successful season — 10 months until “Sister Act” kicks off the 47th season next June.
