Now keep the newly restored ‘Doc’ in Wichita
Congratulations are due the tireless friends of “Doc,” the B-29 Superfortress bomber that was rolled out of a hangar at the former Boeing Wichita this week after 15 years of restoration. It says a lot about Wichita and its Air Capital stature that so many were so willing to dedicate their time and skills to Doc, especially during years that saw so much turmoil in the economy and aviation manufacturing in particular. The next steps involve readying the newly gleaming bomber for flight. Now the goal must be keeping Doc in the city where it was built and restored, by raising the $7 million to $9 million it needs to operate as a flying museum. – Rhonda Holman
