Opinion Line (March 27)

Seriously? High school principals have nothing better to do than track down hundreds of graduates hoping they are successful after graduation? Just divide up the stinkin’ money and let the schools do their job.

File early? Check. File electronically? Check. Request direct deposit? Check. Receive prompt federal refund of overpayment? Check. Kansas? No check (pun unintentional) three weeks after receiving the federal refund. Surely Kansas has not diverted the tax refunds to some other purpose. Or has it?

The small-business exemption from Kansas income tax gave a disproportionate benefit to 300,000 businesses. I guess picking these winners and losers is OK for this governor and Legislature, but not when it comes to wind energy.

I don’t see any logic in my taking the carry and conceal course and buying a permit. Criminals are exempt.

I want to thank the Sam Williams campaign, with its negative ads on TV these past few days, for helping me decide to vote for Jeff Longwell.

How is it that Williams singles out and blames Longwell for supposed “bad” policy that required a majority of votes from City Council members? Though Williams is a newcomer to politics, his tactics smell surprisingly like inaccurate, below-the-belt, chamber-backed campaigns.

Thoughts of a “Sam” as mayor to go along with a “Sam” as governor are driving me to “insamity.”

Finally. A choice between a mudslinger and a non-mudslinger.

The mayoralty could be Gregg Marshall’s for the asking, although Voice for Liberty in Wichita would still put out information against him.

County health departments limited their work to communicable diseases not long ago. They morphed, as government is wont to do, and grew ever larger by tackling diabetes, smoking, obesity, etc. – all better left to doctors and their patients.

Why don’t the anti-immigration people put a stop to the British coming here? They are taking too many of our jobs.

If I were a policeman in Ferguson, Mo., I would resign and move to a city where the citizens respect law and order.

What is the definition of “hate speech”? Is it anything derogatory about anyone but the religious right? Is it fair game to liken them to the Taliban, etc.?

When people subsidize the concerts that I go to, I will agree to subsidize their opera.
