A SurveyUSA poll sponsored by KSN, Channel 3, showed Wichita City Council member Jeff Longwell leading retired ad executive Sam Williams by 7 percentage points in the mayoral race, 42 to 35 percent. But it’s significant that 22 percent of those polled March 18-23 were undecided about which candidate to choose on April 7, which may be why the Williams campaign made the bad decision to go negative in fliers and ads in recent days. In the survey, the top issue for likely voters was the budget/spending (39 percent), followed by job development (25 percent), infrastructure (15 percent) and property tax rates (10 percent). The poll also found 45 percent of respondents supported the marijuana ballot question, which aims to relax punishment for first-time possession in Wichita, with 39 percent opposed and 16 percent uncertain. – Rhonda Holman
