Kansas elections among ‘most surprisingly entertaining’
Kansas had two statewide races included in a Washington Post list of the “five most surprisingly entertaining campaigns of 2014.” Kansas’ gubernatorial race was ranked No. 2, and its U.S. Senate race was No. 3 – even before Democrat Chad Taylor tried to drop out, adding more momentum to independent Senate candidate Greg Orman. On the Senate contest, the Post noted: “The state has not sent a Democrat to the Senate since the 1930s. And there’s a well-known incumbent Republican senator on the ballot. Yet it’s become clear Sen. Pat Roberts could end up with his hands full during the next nine weeks.” That’s surprising, indeed. – Phillip Brownlee
