Opinion Line Extra (March 23)
The ultimate goal of the Republican Legislature and Gov. Sam Brownback is to shut down public schools. Then all children will have to go to parochial or private schools or be home-schooled. How many parents living paycheck to paycheck can begin to afford this?
How can people in Kansas rant that Obama hates America yet vote for Brownback and these clowns in Topeka? Clearly they won’t stop until the Kansas they hate is destroyed. Talk about dumb voters.
The Second Amendment says that individuals shall have the right “to keep and bear arms.” It does not say anything about concealed-carry. The arms that they had, when it was written, were single-shot muskets and swords, not assault rifles and automatic pistols.
A government that fears its own citizens having guns is a government that needs to have some serious changes forced on it. Government isn’t going to reform itself, so it’s up to us. Our system isn’t the issue. It’s the lying sleazebags we keep electing who are the problem.
What part of “a well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state” do you gunslingers not understand – or even read?
What part of “a well regulated militia” do the gun nuts not understand? To me it means you have to serve in some branch of the armed forces, like the National Guard. Can it at least be interpreted as having a license and training?
Hey, Wichita Eagle and the rest of Kansas people: Guns are being carried daily now all over by people. They are called documented gang members.
I will write in Jennifer Winn for mayor. She’s obviously younger, has real hard-life experiences, seems brighter, is undoubtedly more articulate, and does not arrive with baggage from old political commitments. Let’s change Wichita city politics. Say “no” to the good old boys.
I’m a white, conservative female. I think columnist Leonard Pitts is extremely intelligent and well-spoken. It’s apparent he thinks long and hard about what he has to say. He does not spew racism. I disagree with a lot of what he says, but I have total respect for him.
I thought this was a country founded on freedoms of religion, speech, firearms and equality, but it seems these rights are being diminished or made illegal. We may have had money problems before Obama, but at least we were not a 90-pound weakling getting sand kicked in our faces.
So, you 47 Republicans who oppose the president’s diplomacy to stop Iran’s nuclear program: What’s your alternative? I didn’t think you had one. So, what do you want – to start yet another war, now with Iran?
It it weren’t for all the liberal platitudes I see regurgitated in Opinion Line, I wouldn’t know anything.
