Opinion Line (March 20)

Kansas does not win anything with this matchup in basketball. We lose a team early no matter what. One game proves nothing. Prejudice and ego need to go away so KU and WSU can meet regularly – to establish bragging rights and generate state money.

If Bill Self is so concerned about showing off his team to large cities and teams back east and out west, why does he play teams like Emporia, Pittsburg, Fort Hays and Washburn, and not Wichita State? We all know why.

The person who called WSU “Hillside High” should be happy two Kansas teams are in the NCAA Tournament. Win or lose this week, both schools did well this year. Let us show some class for both. We can share basketball in Kansas.

Every year WSU fans have to put up with people asking, “Is Gregg Marshall leaving?” Do they ask that of Mark Few? He has been Gonzaga’s head coach for 16 years. Why is it a stretch to believe Marshall can be at WSU that long or even longer?

How’s that Arab Spring been working for you?

I will give the Kansas lawmakers credit for one thing: They don’t let the media tell them what to do.

The only result from raising sin taxes would be more folks rolling their own cigarettes and more moonshine being produced. Many Kansans are too poor to pay Gov. Sam Brownback’s tax increase, but they won’t change their habits.

Why don’t we just have Dillons sell hard liquor, guns and ammo, and weed? One-stop shopping. Yes, I’m being facetious. Where has common sense gone?

Why stop with concealed-carry? Let’s bring back dueling. I can see it now: Douglas and Emporia. The old Eaton Hotel. Sun blazing on empty streets. High noon. Two guys settling manly differences the old-fashioned manly way. We’ll put the whole thing on ESPN and make a fortune.

One reason cited for concealed- or open-carry of handguns is that in shootings like the one in a Colorado theater, victims could protect themselves. But Colorado allows both open- and concealed-carry, yet no one in the audience reacted. They were under their seats or running for the door.

So the Legislature kisses up to the 1 percent so money won’t be wasted on serving the 99 percent. Then it kisses up to the NRA to help put guns in the hands of the 99 percent. Think about it.

What part of “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” do you liberal gun-grabbers not understand?
