Opinion Line (Sept. 3)

I don’t know if I’m disgusted or disappointed that human beings haven’t learned how to settle differences without killing.

The world is aflame, which is what happens when the leader of the free world leads from behind, not from in front.

When we raise taxes on the 53 percent still actually paying them, the only patriotic response is to sit back and enjoy it, or so our president thinks.

Gov. Sam Brownback’s old “tax-and-spend liberal” pitch against Paul Davis won’t fool can-do Kansans who realize you must tax and spend to continue the tradition of schools, roads and public amenities that are the envy of our neighboring states. Can’t-do conservative Brownback just doesn’t get Kansas.

I doubt that Jesus would do anything to any politician for “not helping poor people.” He never preached it was the government’s job: He preached that it was our job as Christians. Quit making Jesus a socialist. He was decidedly not political.

Why don’t the airlines simply remove all the reclining devices on the seats? Their problem with reclining seats and unruly passengers will be solved.

Judging from my observation while driving to work and back, we would not need a 1-cent sales tax if texting-while-driving laws were enforced. It is obvious most age groups are breaking the laws and endangering everyone.

I think one reason a lot of children are having accidents or being neglected is because their caregivers are on social media, texting, etc.

It all goes back to the old saying: “Do you know where your kids are?”

If we are stupid enough in the USA to let children under 10 shoot lethal weapons, we may as well issue driver’s licenses to them.

Despite its high rate of gun-related murders and numerous other gun-related crimes, Chicago has seen an average drop of 23 percent in murder rates since Illinois started granting concealed-carry permits this year. Just the idea that criminals don’t know who is armed is a massive deterrent.

You have time to water the lawn, wallpaper a room, visit the bathroom and call your Aunt Millie while the innumerable and insufferable ads dominate the TV screen. Years ago there were only a couple of commercial breaks per show. My solution now is to just punch the off button.
