The people Donald Trump recently hired as he moves toward a presidential run include someone familiar to Wichitans from as recently as last fall’s sales tax defeat: Alan Cobb. The Washington Post reported that Cobb “has signed on with Trump and is assisting with recruitment.” Cobb, a former Kansas state director of Americans for Prosperity and lobbyist for Koch Industries, was involved in the Coalition for a Better Wichita’s successful campaign against the 1-cent citywide sales tax. Last year Cobb also helped win re-election for Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., and Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Wichita. Besides Cobb and others, Trump has tapped Corey R. Lewandowski, a former director of voter registration for Americans for Prosperity, to be senior political adviser. Trump told the Post his interest in the GOP nomination is no joke: “People around the world are laughing at us. Look at China, they’re killing us, taking our jobs. We have weakness in the Middle East and with ISIS. We have incompetent people running the country and I’m tired of it.” – Rhonda Holman
