Opinion Line Extra (Aug. 27)

We now learn that there was a failed rescue mission to free James Foley. President Obama sounds more like Jimmy Carter every day.

It is not the time to say “no” to dealing with ISIS. The U.S. needs to act now, not later. It is not the time for Washington to play games.

So George W. Bush was doused with a bucket of ice water. Now he knows how the majority of American voters felt when the Supreme Court declared him president in 2000.

Did you notice the small-government, anarchic, tea party types marauding in Ferguson, Mo.? Actually, rioting and property destruction are almost always the province of the Democratic left.

Gov. Jay Nixon, Al Sharpton and the thugs in Ferguson have already tried and convicted the police officer. They are pandering, unlawful cheats.

If that white cop is found guilty I will march and raise hell, but I will not burn and loot buildings. I will not tolerate race discrimination. They will have to call the pope to quiet me down.

Can we call this country the United States? What I see is every state for itself, thanks to our Congress. We sure do not want any rules from the EPA, because it might upset the poor oil and gas industry. Or any gun control, because it might upset those poor gun lovers. All you really need are the Republicans to solve any problem.

I am forced to pay taxes. I should not be forced to support unions. If you do not like the working conditions, then find another job. The Fraternal Order of Police, Wichita, Lodge No. 5 is a union.

We are looking at the delinquent real estate taxes all wrong. Vote “no” on sales tax and vote out of office any elected officials who have allowed these people this much time to pay back taxes. Maybe new ones will correct this problem.

I don’t understand the opposition to legalizing marijuana. We can have alcohol and cigarettes legally. We accept the problems that come with those. Ban all three, or make all three available.

I used to be a fan of Chris Christie. Then came “Bridgegate” and I took a wait-and-see attitude. Then he went to Kansas City in support of Sam Brownback and I no longer have respect for the man. Go, Paul Davis, our next Kansas governor.

Convenient campus parking was not on WSU president John Bardo’s master plan.
