Moran invites two Cabinet members to Air Capital

Credit is due Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., for taking a high-profile opportunity last week to remind the Obama administration that when it pushes to alter depreciation for business aircraft in an effort to target a tax “loophole” for the wealthy, it targets the general aviation industry and workforce. During a Tuesday hearing, Moran encouraged Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx and Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker to visit Wichita to see for themselves and better understand aircraft manufacturing. “The ability to buy an airplane is so important…. It’s not just an issue of wealth; it is an issue of 32,000 jobs in Kansas,” Moran said. According to Aviation International News, Foxx expressed interest in the invitation. As Moran’s office later said in announcing two related bills, Kansas’ general-aviation sector generates nearly $3 billion in annual exports and builds 40 percent of all such aircraft. – Rhonda Holman
